Three sessions, each consisting of two evenings of sailing, will be held to familiarize members with the skills needed to sail Sharp Cheddar, the San Juan 24, which is docked at Bay Harbor Marina. The purpose of these orientation sessions is to help in the transition from sailing Transfusions or RS FEVAs on the river to sailing a larger boat on the Saginaw Bay. These sessions will not teach you to sail. At the discretion of the trainer, completion of an orientation session may serve as the qualification test required to check out the keel boats for Independent Sailing on the Bay.The sessions will cover topics such as:
- rigging the boat
- care and use of the outboard motor
- basic right of way rules for sailing or motoring in the river
- basic navigation or where not to sail on the Bay
- safe docking procedures
- and more.
